Chlorine dioxide as a biocide in open recooling basins
In addition to its use in drinking water, chlorine dioxide is also ideal for disinfecting water in open cooling systems. With pH values > 8.0, chlorine dioxide is more efficient than chlorine products. The ongoing biocide costs can be significantly reduced by installing a generator system each year. Another advantage is that chlorine dioxide can be measured manually and electronically. This is a major advantage over a broad-spectrum biocide.
As water in a cooling circuit does not have to comply with drinking water regulations, chlorine dioxide can also be produced in a generator system using sulphuric acid and sodium chlorite. This significantly reduces the corrosion rate in the treated water. The current generation of generation systems can be monitored remotely and generate an electronic operating log. The operating status can be transmitted via a 4-20 mA signal or via a BUS system. Maintenance of a generator system is carried out once a year by trained personnel.
