Operating language

The device offers a selection of different operating languages. These languages can be edited and exchanged using the setup program. The following languages are currently available:

  • German
  • English
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Czech
  • Chinese
  • Russian
  • Italian

It is also possible to create custom language versions that support Unicode.

Process screen editor

The setup program allows the user to create 6 customized process screens and transfer them to the screen recorder. These screens are used for displaying process data as well as entering texts and process values. Each process screen can consist of up to 100 objects (images, analog channels, digital channels, texts, …).

Interfaces

USB

The screen recorder is equipped as standard with two USB interfaces. A USB storage stick can be connected via the host interface on the front. The device interface on the back (Micro-B type) is used to connect to a PC (for the setup program or PCC/PCA3000). To ensure IP66 protection at the front, the USB host interface is fitted with a cover.

Ethernet

As standard, the screen recorder is equipped with an Ethernet interface that supports various functions:

  • email dispatch via SMTP server
  • time synchronization via SNTP server
  • communication with a PC (setup program, web server, data archiving with PCC/PCA3000)
  • communication with Modbus master/slave

The IP address can be configured manually or assigned automatically by a DHCP server. DNS use is also supported. In addition, RS232/RS485 interfaces are available.

RS232/RS485

This standard interface can be switched between RS232 and RS485 by configuration. It is used for communication with a Modbus master or Modbus slave. It is also intended for the connection of a barcode scanner.

PROFINET IO Device

Optionally, the screen recorder can be equipped with a PROFINET interface in order to integrate it as an IO device into a PROFINET network. This interface also allows simultaneous use of Ethernet standard services, making the standard Ethernet interface unnecessary. A GSD file (GSDML) describing the properties of the screen recorder is available for the IO controller programming system.

External inputs via interface

The interfaces (Ethernet, RS232/RS485) allow the screen recorder to access 24 external analog inputs and 24 external digital inputs. In addition, up to 10 texts for batch logs and 4 event texts with a length of up to 160 characters can be transmitted.

In addition, up to 10 texts for batch logs and 4 event texts with a length of up to 160 characters can be transmitted; Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU are used for this purpose.

Inputs and outputs

The screen recorder is available in different device variants with analog and digital inputs and outputs (options). The analog inputs (maximum 6) are versatile measuring inputs for:

  • resistance thermometers
  • thermocouples
  • resistance potentiometers/WFG
  • resistance/potentiometer
  • standard signals (current, voltage)

Each of the up to 2 analog outputs can be used flexibly either as a voltage output in the range from 0 to 10 V or as a current output with 0/4 to 20 mA.

The digital inputs (maximum 12) and the individually switchable digital inputs/outputs (12) are operated with a voltage of DC 0/24 V.

A relay output with changeover contact is present in every device variant, regardless of the other specifications.

Customer-specific linearization

Thanks to individual linearization according to customer requirements, it is also possible to use sensor signals with special characteristics (e.g. PTC/NTC sensors while observing the resistance measuring range). Programming is carried out in the setup program either by means of a value table with up to 40 value pairs or by a formula (4th-order polynomial). The device supports 2 customer-specific linearizations.

Data recording

Measured values are recorded continuously with a sampling cycle of 125 ms. These measured values form the basis for generating reports and checking limit values. The transfer of measured values into the device’s working memory depends on the programmable storage cycle and storage value:

  • current value
  • average value
  • maximum value
  • minimum value
  • min./max. value

The data is stored by the screen recorder in groups, with a maximum of four groups assignable to each input.

Working memory (SRAM)

The data in the SRAM is regularly copied in blocks of 20 kilobytes each to the internal memory.

Internal memory (Flash)

When a memory block in the working memory is full, it is transferred to the internal memory, which has a maximum capacity of 1 GByte. Every write process is monitored in order to detect errors during data storage immediately. The device continuously monitors the capacity of the internal memory and activates a memory alarm signal when a configurable remaining capacity is reached, which can, for example, trigger the alarm relay.

The memory works according to the ring memory principle, so that older data is automatically overwritten by new data when the memory is full. For the history display in the screen recorder, data can be retrieved from the internal memory, whereby the history memory has a capacity of 8 MByte.

Data transfer to the PC

Data can be transferred from the screen recorder to a PC either via a USB storage stick or via one of the interfaces (USB device, Ethernet).

Data security

The data is encrypted and stored in a proprietary format, which ensures a high level of data security. In the event of a power supply interruption, the following conditions apply:

  • measured data in the working memory and the time are buffered by a lithium battery (service life of the lithium battery > 7 years)
  • if the lithium battery is discharged, the measured data in the working memory and the time are lost. During battery replacement, the data is buffered for approx. 2 minutes by a storage capacitor.
  • measured and configuration data in the internal memory are not lost.

The device with type addition 87 has tamper detection. Based on a digital device certificate, it can be proven that the register data in the device and during transfer to the data archive has not been manipulated.

Recording time

The maximum recording duration is influenced by various factors, above all by the selected storage cycle. If a group with 6 analog channels is activated in normal mode and the average values (not min./max. values) are stored, the values in the table apply. Entries in the event list can reduce the maximum recording duration.

Reports

The recording of reports (maximum, minimum, and average values) for each channel of a group can be carried out over defined periods. The configuration is performed individually for each group.

Batch log

The screen recorder enables the creation of a batch log for a system. The measured data, the start, the end, and the duration of the batch can be displayed together with a batch counter and freely definable texts both on the screen recorder and within the PCA3000 PC evaluation software. A barcode scanner can also be used to control the start and stop of the batch and to read in batch texts.

Recording GPS data

The device can receive and record GPS data in NMEA-0183 format via its serial interface. The data from the connected GPS receivers, such as positioning data, is entered cyclically into the event list (group-related) and can therefore be evaluated in conjunction with other recorded data.

Operating modes

The operating mode can be selected individually for each group. The storage cycle and storage value can be set separately for each operating mode. Up to 4 groups can be recorded with a storage cycle of 125 ms.

The operating modes have different priorities:

Event mode

Activation or deactivation of event mode is performed via a control signal such as a digital input, a group alarm, or a collective alarm. As long as the control signal is active, the device remains in event mode, which has the highest priority.

Time mode

Time mode is active daily within an adjustable time window, provided no event mode is active.

Normal mode

If the device is neither in event mode nor in time mode, normal mode is active.

Limit value monitoring

Thanks to adjustable limit value monitoring, up to 24 analog values can be monitored. If the limit value is exceeded or undershot, an alarm signal is generated that can be used for individual purposes, for example to switch the operating mode from normal to event mode. With the help of an alarm delay, short-term overshoots or undershoots can be masked so that no alarm signal is triggered.

It is also possible to suppress the alarm signal by means of a digital signal. Both the limit value and the switching differential can be adjusted during parameterization.

Counters/integrators

Six additional internal channels are available, which can be used as:

  • counter
  • integrator
  • operating hour counter
  • recording of a total flow quantity

Through digital inputs/outputs 1 and 2 (optionally 3), two high-speed counters with a frequency of up to 12.5 kHz can be implemented.

These optional inputs are also required for flow measurement in order to evaluate pulses from a flow sensor.

The counters are controlled by digital signals (counting pulses), while the integrators are operated by analog signals (the value is integrated according to the selected time base).

Operating hour counters record the period during which a digital signal is active.

The value of the counter/integrator is displayed numerically on the screen recorder with a maximum of 9 digits. In the event of an overflow, the counter starts again at 0.

Different recording periods can be set. A minimum and a maximum alarm can be configured for each counter/integrator.

Mathematics and logic module

The mathematics and logic module (6 channels each) is available as an option. With the mathematics function, various analog and Boolean input variables can be linked by means of a freely definable formula with a maximum length of 160 ASCII characters. The output variables are real values.

As an alternative to manual formula entry, predefined mathematical functions are also available, such as:

  • difference
  • ratio
  • humidity
  • moving average

The logic function allows the linking of different Boolean values using a logic formula that can be up to 600 ASCII characters long. The output variables are Boolean values.

The configuration of the mathematics and logic module is carried out exclusively via the setup program.

Structured Text

With the “Structured Text” option (type addition), the user is given the opportunity to develop a custom application. This application is created using the ST editor, which is part of the setup program, and uses the PLC programming language “Structured Text”.

Once completed, the application is transferred to the device and executed there continuously. Online debugger functions are available in the ST editor for troubleshooting and testing.

FDA-compliant data recording

With type addition 888, the screen recorder fully complies with FDA requirements according to 21CFR Part11. The PC software package (including PCS and PCAT) is required for user management and commissioning.

The device supports up to 50 users with specific rights. A user can provide a completed batch or the recorder data of a certain time period with their electronic signature. Even when logging off, a logged-in user can provide a signature, which then applies to the entire period during which they were logged in.

Visualization on the device

The screen recorder offers various display types for visualizing the measured data. The visualization screens after switching on the device can be selected in the configuration, as can the screen that appears when the home button is confirmed. Furthermore, the colors of the individual channels as well as the background color of the analog curves and digital tracks can be set.

Web server

The screen recorder is equipped with a web server function as standard.

The web server enables the user to display the following settings, process values, and messages using a web browser:

  • parameters of the application level
  • individual process screens
  • factory visualization
  • data of the recording function (including history)
  • alarm and event lists

The display depends on the web browser and the PC operating system used.

PC programs

The screen recorder is offered with two different basic type extensions:

Basic type 1:

  • includes the PC programs
    • Setup
    • PCC
    • PCA3000

PCA communication software PCC

The PCA communication software PCC is a PC program developed for Windows operating systems (7/8/10 – 32/65 bit). It is used to read out the data of the screen recorder. The data can either be read out using a USB storage stick or via the interfaces (USB device, Ethernet).

The readout can be performed either manually or automatically, for example daily at 11:00 p.m.

PC evaluation software PCA3000

The PC evaluation software PCA3000 is a PC program for Windows operating systems (7/8/10 – 32/64 bit) used for the management, archiving, visualization, and evaluation of the data from the screen recorder.

  • The software recognizes the data from various configured devices and stores it automatically in an archive database. Only one identifier (supplementary description) must be assigned manually by the user.
  • Users can access specific data records at any time, which can be distinguished by the identifier. In addition, it is possible to limit the time periods to be evaluated.
  • Any analog and digital channels of a screen recorder, even from different groups, can subsequently be combined in PCA3000 into so-called PCA groups.
  • Each group is displayed in its own window, so that several groups can be shown and compared on the screen in parallel.
  • The export filter can be used to export the stored data for processing in other programs such as Excel.
  • The PC evaluation software PCA3000 is network-capable, which means that several users can independently access the data from the same archive file (*.177) in a network directory.
  • With the PCA3000 option “automatic printout”, in combination with the PCC software, batch data or reports can be printed automatically or made available as a PDF file in the network. The output forms used can be customized individually.

PC Security Manager PCS

The PCS software is used to manage access control for device users and is available exclusively to administrators. This software can only be used with devices that have type addition 888.
